I don’t normally use photographs of myself as references but this was a challenge accepted. Is the painting a self portrait in a traditional sense?
Yes and no.
The photo I used was originally taken for my first ever gallery show Her Path, so the reference was special to me. The painting itself however, as all my portraits, has a life of its own, a mood of its own, and a meaning different from the original photo.

The work is never about who is depicted, but about how it makes you feel when you look at it. And is that feeling familiar.
