INTERIOR OF THE MIND - THE ETERNAL LOVE STORY

“Let yourself be silently drawn

by the strange pull of what you really love.

It will not lead you astray.”

- Rumi

I have been painting all my life and, yet like most artists I know, my path to a professional art career was not a straight line. Not many people know that before fully dedicating myself to painting I spent 10 years working in the interior design industry. This environment has undoubtedly shaped me. Surrounded by the crème de la crème of contemporary design and world-leading architects, I was soaking it all in. A subconscious sensibility to textures and colours, a focus on materiality, a certain structure and a play of lines and volumes that translated onto canvas. My love for beautifully designed spaces became a very direct and endless source of inspiration that I keep returning to.

The INTERIOR OF THE MIND series is a body of work that is a potent mix of my love of psychology, interior design and gestural expressionist mark-making.
All paintings in the series start as figurative works referencing an interior that has personal significance or the one I admire. There is more to the story of course. With each new layer, like time chipping away at the memories, the details start disappearing. There is an architectural structure - a base of geometric shapes on top of which lies a different realm of the subconscious. The still life in the paintings is distorted to unveil something more dream-like.
The paintings leave space for your imagination to join the dots, go inward and find the stories that make sense to you.
