Van Gogh and others of his time put their own emotions directly into their paintings. That felt radical at the time. What I’m interested in now is almost the opposite. Something quieter, and maybe stranger. These paintings aren’t about what I’m feeling. The women are deliberately faceless, unfinished, so they don’t carry a fixed mood or story. The less I define them, the more room there is for you.

What I do hold onto is the clothing and body language. The fall of a sleeve. The weight of fabric across a shoulder. Clothes are never neutral. They protect, they reveal, they let us rehearse different versions of ourselves.

People often tell me the paintings feel different depending on the day. I like that. They’re empathetic. If you come to them feeling sad, they feel sad. If you come to them happy, they feel light. They respond to your emotions.

These are calm, grounded works. I’m interested in domestic moments. Women in their own spaces. Quiet, personal. Something that feels familiar, reflects something internal.
